Wesleyan Readings (#10): Good Works

WORSHIP LEADER: We believe that good works cannot save us from sin or deliver us from God’s judgment.

CONGREGATION: By the works of the law no human being will be justified in His sight. (Romans 3:20)

WORSHIP LEADER: Yet good works are the fruit of faith and follow after regeneration.

CONGREGATION: For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them. (Ephesians 2:10)

WORSHIP LEADER: A living faith will be known by its fruit, just as a tree is known by what it produces.

CONGREGATION: Every healthy tree bears good fruit… Thus you will recognize them by their fruits. (Matthew 7:17, 20)

WORSHIP LEADER: These works are pleasing and acceptable to God, not in our strength, but through the Holy Spirit who works in us.

CONGREGATION: It is God who works in you, both to will and to work for His good pleasure. (Philippians 2:13)

WORSHIP LEADER: As we abide in Christ, our lives begin to reflect His love, holiness, and mercy in word and deed.

CONGREGATION: Let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven. (Matthew 5:16)

WORSHIP LEADER: Good works do not earn salvation, but they testify to a faith that is alive, active, and obedient.

CONGREGATION: Faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead… I will show you my faith by my works. (James 2:17–18)

WORSHIP LEADER: Whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus. (Colossians 3:17) Thanks be to God, who by His grace enables us to live lives that bear fruit for His kingdom.

EVERYONE: Amen.
