Wesleyan Readings (#7): Prevenient Grace

WORSHIP LEADER: We believe that left to their own, none are capable of calling upon God or believing for salvation.

CONGREGATION: None is righteous, no, not one; no one understands; no one seeks for God. (Romans 3:10–11)

WORSHIP LEADER: Yet the grace of God goes before us, drawing, awakening, and enabling what we cannot do on our own.

CONGREGATION: No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws him. (John 6:44)

WORSHIP LEADER: This prevenient grace is freely given to all through Jesus Christ, making salvation available to every person.

CONGREGATION: The grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation for all people. (Titus 2:11)

WORSHIP LEADER: By this grace, we are stirred to repentance, empowered to respond in faith, and made able to turn and be saved.

CONGREGATION: Though we were dead in our trespasses, God, in His mercy, awakens us to life by grace.

WORSHIP LEADER: Even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ, by grace you have been saved. (Ephesians 2:5)

CONGREGATION: Let us then walk in the light we have received, responding to God’s call with hearts made willing by His grace.

WORSHIP LEADER: Today, if you hear his voice, do not harden your hearts. (Hebrews 3:15)

CONGREGATION: Thanks be to God for His grace that goes before us, awakening us, drawing us, and making a way for all to come to Him.

EVERYONE: Amen
